No Matter Who Wins, We All Lose
Hi,
At the time of writing this, we are only 70 days away from Election Day in the United States. By this time, most people have likely made up their mind on who they plan to vote for on November 5th, 2024. Most of these voters believe that their lives will significantly change based on who is in office. If you are one of those voters, I’m sorry to tell you the person that becomes President of the United States has little to no impact on your life.
I consider myself politically center-right. If I had to choose someone to vote for today, I would choose Donald Trump. Not because I am a mega fan but rather I think he’s a better option than Kamala Harris. He is also aligned with my personal values more: family, faith, pro-America. “How does a felon align with your values?” Well (1) he didn’t invite Meg the Stallion to twerk on stage during his rally and (2) didn’t have Planned Parenthood providing free abortions outside the RNC. But you might be surprised to know that my life has actually been better under President Biden than it ever was under Former President Trump. I have a great job, I bought a home, and I have never been more financially stable in my entire life. So was that President Biden’s doing or was it the simple fact that life has followed its natural progression?
I would be incredibly naïve to believe that the President of the United States (or anyone in D.C. for that matter) can significantly change my life. At the end of the day if I:
struggle to pay for groceries - I should find a higher paying job.
am worried about my “right to an abortion” being taken away - I should abstain from sex.
am not sure how I will retire before the age of 65 - I should reevaluate my lifestyle and invest more for the future.
This is not to say that the President of the United States has absolutely no influence over my life but rather to say that most of our outcomes are due to our own personal life decisions. Regardless of who the President is, if I make poor life choices, I will suffer the consequences (or at least should). Similarly, if I make good life choices, I will reap the rewards (at least in most cases).
On November 5th, 2024, vote for who you wish. Just don’t vote for the Presidential candidate that will “change your life.” That Presidential candidate simply does not exist. If you want to vote for someone that will likely have a larger influence on your life, pay close attention to your county, district, and state elections.
